Giving to a student will not only provide you the satisfaction of knowing you made a lasting difference in a young person’s life, but there are additional tax charitable deduction benefits to you, as well. Gifts of cash are fully deductible up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income. Any excess over the 50 percent deduction can be carried forward for up to five additional years. There are many benefits of giving, depending on what and how you give. Consult your tax advisor with regard to your own situation, but in general the following guidelines apply.
Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Careers in Aviation Scholarship Committee or by a designated committee according to the donor’s wishes. Donors may play a key role in determining criteria. Recipients will be selected in the spring and awards will be applied toward tuition costs for the upcoming academic year. A management of fund fee is charged annually to scholarship gifts. Donors of full scholarships will receive an annual report on their scholarship and award recipients.

Endowments to benefit students may be established with a contribution of $25,000 or more. Investment of the endowment is managed by the Careers in Aviation Foundation Board of Directors. The investment policy established by the board is designed to protect the purchasing power of the gift over time and to provide steady amounts of spendable income. A 7% management of fund fee is charged annually to endowment funds. Donors will receive an annual report on their scholarship and award recipients.

As a benevolent organization, Careers in Aviation is unique in the small percentage of fees needed toward the management of funds compared to other organizations offering scholarships and endowments. The donor dollars directly benefit the student. In addition, Careers in Aviation works closely with the U.S. Department of Education and numerous higher education universities to match the right student to the specific requirement requests made by the donor.
