In Memoriam: A. Scott Crossfield

 

Crossfield Tribute VideoThe Crossfield family announces the Crossfield Aerospace Engineer Scholarship Endowment. Careers in Aviation, Inc has been appointed to serve as steward of this prestigious endowment. A. Scott Crossfield had a life long passion for education. He credited his career to an elementary school teacher who influenced his life.

This legendary aviation pioneer was a former test pilot, and the first person to successfully fly at both Mach 2 and Mach 3. Crossfield’s illustrious career garnered many awards and honors. In 1983, Crossfield was inducted into the NAHF in recognition of his contributions made as a naval aviator, aerospace engineer, and test pilot.

Crossfield’s long flying career began in World War II as a fighter pilot and instructor in the Navy. His greatest inspiration as design consultant and test pilot included the Douglas D-558 and the X-15. He was also a general aviation advocate and proud owner of a Cessna 210A.

Speaking on behalf of the Crossfield family, daughter Sally Crossfield Farley said, “My father would view this honor with extraordinary pride. Education was first and foremost in his heart as evidenced by his Crossfield Aerospace Education Teacher Award which is given annually to a deserving teacher. His own career began and hinged on his Engineering degree and helping youth understand the opportunities open to them was a large part of his life.
