Donor Policy

 

Careers in Aviation Donor Policy Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish policy and procedures governing scholarships, endowments, and other donations to further the educational objectives of Careers in Aviation.

Educational Objectives:

Careers in Aviation will advance the future of aviation careers through scholarship opportunities by supporting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs that lead to strengthening the nation's ability to meet the aviation career needs with technological superiority. Careers in Aviation will stimulate interest and inform students about aviation career opportunities by fostering strategic alliances with industry, associations, organizations, and the educational community; by encouraging and fostering the exchange of information among youth, parents, educators, industry, associations, and organizations which will provide students the needed resources to the aviation and space disciplines.

 

Definitions:

Scholarships - Generally an amount to be used for academic purposes and paid directly to the university/college of enrollment. Scholarships will specifically define that portion of the scholarship that maybe considered Financial Aid.

Endowments - Generally the scholarship covers the majority of educational expenses, including tuition, living expenses, required fees, and books for the degree chosen (undergraduate or graduate). The amount and duration of awards vary by student based on the cost of attendance, and the length of the program, as well as other scholarships or grants received. The maximum available per student per year of study is $25,000 and the maximum length for undergraduate is five years and three years for graduate. Endowment donations will require the first year investment of funds with second year investment returns applicable toward scholarship award.

General Operational Fund - Generally the amount to be used for program adminstration of donations providing Careers in Aviation the opportunity to fulfill the dreams and goals of young people. Management Fund donors will receive recognition as appropriate to the category of donation.

 

Selection Procedures:

Selection panel of scholarship recipients shall be made by designated sources with knowledge of the career area; and/or by an education partner organization with knowledge of the career area. Careers in Aviation participation on the selection panel will involve professionals with relevant qualifications. Final selection of scholarship recipient will be made by the designated panel.

 

Compliance with Donor Agreements/Criteria:

Proposed stipulations to be placed on gifts or bequests must be reviewed and approved by the Careers in Aviation Executive Director and Board of Directors prior to acceptance. Unless otherwise designated or delegated to the Careers in Aviation Executive Director or Board of Directors, all donations offered to Careers in Aviation will comply with the donor agreement and criteria.

 

Evaluation and Qualification:

Recipients will be required to provide feedback information at the completion of the academic work funded by Careers in Aviation to include proof of satisfactory competition. Failure to provide the feedback information will disqualify the recipient for future assistance. Scholarship recipients must satisfactorily complete the course of study to qualify for a subsequent scholarship. If the student fails to satisfactorily complete the academic work for which the scholarship was awarded they shall be liable to reimburse Careers in Aviation the full financial value received.

 

Ineligible for Scholarships:

Unless specifically included in the pool of eligible candidates, elected officers, members of the Board and professional staff of Careers in Aviation and their immediate family members are ineligible to apply for Scholarships.
