Dear Friends of Scott Crossfield,

For 72 years, this legendary aviation pioneer wasn't just a pilot, he was a former test pilot, aerospace engineer, and the first person to fly Mach 2 and, successfully, Mach 3.

Crossfield's career began in World War II as a fighter pilot and instructor in the Navy. The culmination of his career as a design consultant and test pilot were the Douglas D-558 and the X-15. Scott's illustrious career garnered many awards and honors. In 1983, Crossfield was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions made as a naval aviator, aerospace engineer, and test pilot.

His own career began and hinged on his engineering degree. Helping youth understand the opportunities open to them was a large part of his life.

Speaking on behalf of the Crossfield family, daughter Sally Crossfield Farley said: "My father would view this endowment with extraordinary pride. Educating our youth was first and foremost in his heart, as evidenced by his Crossfield Aerospace Education Teacher Award which is given annually to a deserving teacher. A scholarship in his name that will help some deserving individual achieve their educational goals is precisely how he would wish his name carried on."

We invite you to join us in a lasting memoriam of our legendary friend. Your support will make a difference in the lives of teachers and students across the nation. At the same time, you will make a difference by growing our future aerospace industry workforce.
