The Evolving Aviation Maintenance Workforce

Within the past generation, airlines have evolved away from performing nearly all their own maintenance with experienced FAA Certificated Airframe and Powerplant mechanics. Now much of that maintenance is contracted to repair stations where many workers have specialized skills, but do not hold FAA certification.

PAMA/SAE Institute Solution

In 2006, motivated employers and other stakeholders asked PAMA/SAE Institute Professional Certification to develop technical standards and assessments to verify technician skill, knowledge, and capability with sufficient rigor for industry confidence in contracted technicians.

•·AMS/AME certification establishes a first ever baseline of fundamental knowledge for the growing population of non-FAA certificated technicians and validates this basic knowledge awareness in our FAA certificated and experienced workforce.

•· The evolving Aircraft Composite Structure community has requested advanced technical standards of competence - Initial program design complete.

•·The Military and Civilian helicopter industry has requested Master Rotorcraft Technician standards - Initial Program Design complete.

PAMA/SAE Institute is working closely with government agencies, states, schools, and companies to grow industry assessment and certification portfolio to meet the workforce excellence needs. PAMA/SAE Institute looks forward to sharing program details with you.
